US Dept. of Justice Agent at DEFCON Event Explains Botnets & DDOS Attacks To Kids in 15 Minutes

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

The Defcon series of conferences in the US are probably the premier large events for computer 'hackers' and anyone interested in the gory details of real world computer systems and also breaking and abusing them!

In the past they have hosted talks from a wide variety of hackers and specialists from around the world - both those from the 'white hat' (good) camp and also from the 'black hat' (bad) camp. ;)

I highly recommend reviewing their youtube channel as it is a goldmine of information for anyone wanting to improve computer security or to just take a look into the fascinating reality what goes on behind the scenes of the internet. In the past they have demonstrated, live, how to hack into a cash machine, a car and even how to bypass ALL SSL Encryption used on the web (proving that at that time, all financial transactions and corporate communications were totally open to being spied on).

Since Steemit has allegedly recently experienced a Distributed Denial of Service Attack which resulted in the site being unusable, I thought it might be interesting for some of my fellow Steemians to watch this short video and learn the basics of how DDOS attacks are started and how the US government attempts to stop them - cough when they aren't actually involved in CAUSING DDOS attacks themselves cough.
