Classification of Printer | Which printer is better?
The printer is an external hardware output device that takes the electronic data stored on a computer or other device and generates output in the form of graphics or text on a paper".
Classification of Printer:
There are two types of printers.
- Impact printers
- Non-impact printers
01. Impact printers:
An impact printer makes contact with the paper. It usally forms the print image by pressingan inked ribbon against the paper using a hammer or pins. There are some examples of impact printers: Dot-Matrix Printers, Daisy-wheel printers, Line printers, Drum printer, Chain printers.
Dot Matrix Printer:
A dot matrix printer or impact matrix printer refers to a type of computer printer with a print head that runs back and forth on the page and prints by impact, striking an ink-soaked cloth ribbon against the paper.
A dot-matrix printer uses print heads containing from 9, 24, 48 pins. These pins produce patterns of dots on the paper to form the individual characters. The print head mechanism pushes each pin into the ribbon. Which is held in between printer head and the paper ink from the ribbon onto a paper. Dot-matrix printers are inexpensive and typically print at speeds of 100-600 characters per second. Many offices and government agencies use them because they can make multiple copies at lowest cost.
Advantages:
They can print on multi-part stationary or make carbon copies.
Low printing cost
They can bear environmental conditions.
Long life
Disadvantage:
- Noise
- Low resolution
- Very limiter Color performance
- Low speed
Non-impact printers
Non-impact printers do not use a striking device to produce characters on the paper and because these printers do not hammer against the paper they are much quieter.
There are some non-impacted printers, Laser Printer.
Ink Jet Printers
An inkjet printer is a type of computer printer that creates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper. Inkjet printers are the most commonly used type of printer and range from small inexpensive consumer models to very large professional machines that can cost up to thousands of dollars. It is consumable called inkjet cartridge.
Advantages:
- Low printer cost
- Compact size
- Low noise
- No warm-up time compare to the laser printer
Disadvantages:
- The ink is often very expensive.
- Lifetime of inkjet prints produced by injket printer is limited. They will eventually fade and the color balance may change.
- Easy get "blur" if get water drop.
- Easy to get clogging on inkjet nozzles.
- Must print it once every few days, Make sure print head won't dried up.
