Internet is global access to information right? Well 360°video (in VR) is global access to shared EXPERIENCE !

 We’ve evolved in an extraordinary way. When our species faced new challenges in the past, we applied a nifty trick of sharing knowledge and experience to overcome them, collectively.

Language was the source of that revolutionary change. Instead of evolving longer fangs or claws to compete with other top predators. We used clubs and bows. How ?

An innovator thought it up, and the idea spread far and wide thanks to language. ; Body, spoken or written language was the mechanism, and very rapidly the human race collectively moved up the food chain. Shared knowledge changed the game.

Language has been evolving for a very long time, from grunts, to spoken word, the written word to Morse Code and digital computer languages. It was a genius move, we digitized our thoughts and never looked back.

When text writing went digital, hard copy information could be condensed, copied and sent all over the world. Amazing. Photos went digital, from Polaroids to jpgs, it was an amazing transition. Sharing sights and views of anything anywhere. Personal entertainment went from on a hard object. A record, a tape or a disc, to wavs and mp3s. Videos from VHS tapes to mp4s. The internet was founded on the sharing of digital information from around the world.

Really though, it’s Nature imitating Nature, Humans started acting like viruses, sharing knowledge and information from experiences to others of our species. Group learning, as opposed to individual learning.

Changes just as absolutely profound to OUR “way of life” are occurring right now!

Because of VIRTUAL REALITY and 360 VIDEO

A new era in evolution is stemming from Augmented reality , 360 video and Virtual Reality are popping up everywhere.

Something entirely unexpected has gone digital. Experience, Time and Space. When moments of TIME (activities or events), or a real location in Space (even outer space) are captured with a 360 Camera, then that information is converted into Digital and can be shared or relived using Virtual Reality viewers. Wow. Suddenly , Experiences can be shared globally the same way information is currently shared today.

This is a Game Changer for the human race. We now exist in a world were billions of people could (at the exact same moment) share in an event or experience from a single perspective. The implications of this are FAR reaching. Entertainment will be the first to benefit, then Politics, then someday soon: Education. The whole world could attend classes presented by the greatest minds on our planet, at the same time.

Just like when religious texts were disseminated globally changed the world, I believe we may see similar amazing results with the release of a single unified network of shared experiences?

Augmented Reality

Now that the Internet can connect us to Live or captured life experiences of others.(360VR content) The merging of VR and AR provide an amazing thing.

My Samsung GearVR is a great little mobile VR device, its a scaled up version of Google Cardboard (or a scaled down version of Oculus rift) but the key feature is that the device has a camera built right in. Now, I’ve used an augmented reality app called Scopic that allowed me to add filters to the world while using Landscape Split Screen mode. That meant that while viewing my VR device, it Augmented my actual World.

Suddenly the world is black and white, my friend becomes the hulk, that building becomes a van Gogh (art filter). Augmented reality apps abound using the pass-through camera. Snapchat, and Facebook are hyping on facial recognition whereas others seek planar surfaces or QR codes or other Trigger data to Launch an animation. The key here is, overlaying the new data to a stable point in the real world and feeding that information between you and Reality.

Access to a ghost-like (semi-transparent) AR interface with which we can use when faced with a new problem,e.g. fixing a flat tire or dealing with a plumbing leak.

The devices which we carry in our pockets suddenly have an evolutionary explosion in information and experiences available to superimpose over our life. Awesome, it should lead to something like this.

The mobile device of the future does way more than simply a communication and information. It’s a filter to your whole world, that just happens to add the worlds’ experiences at your fingertips.

Sensory Hacking.

Hacking the senses- It’s our evolutionary future.

Very soon you will see traditional high quality, thermal and ultraviolet cameras applying the same trick of splitting the screen and tracking head movement to give augmented sight. In time the technology will shrink and be integrated into existing ARVR personal devices.

Acting as a filter to your world, AR will enhance your visual spectrum to give you the range of view of a butterfly (great for structure inspections) or thermal like a snake snake. (great for home efficiency scanning, firefighters)

So now that Augmented reality is here and becoming more and more familiar, you should expect more apps and games utilizing ARKit ARCore GLSM and WEBVR capabilities, as well. Yet another layer of information we can embed into our world and share with each other.

Once AR apps like Pokemon Go or Snapchat start being available in hands free AR headsets (see GLSM,) you should expect to see a huge surge in development for augmented reality apps powered by the pass-through camera and in no time at all.

Technology and the human to human, human to world interface will evolve into something like this. …. and it’s only the beginning.
