Although it is said that the groundbreaking 5G technology will be commercially launched as the first in China in 2019, it is already being tested on the Old Continent.

5G technology is not just a new standard for faster communication with the whole world, but above all, thanks to it, humanity is to begin to develop much faster economically, from transport and energy, to education, health care and production.

5G will change the lives of both companies and ordinary people. It will offer data transfer speeds from 10 to 100 Gbps. For comparison, currently developed LTE technologies allow access to the Internet with a bandwidth of up to 600 Mbps.

At the moment, networks can support approximately 5 billion users at the same time. The 5G network will lift these limits, offering access to the Internet for hundreds of billions of users, including applications, mobile devices and robots.

This technology will allow for fast and secure information exchange between various mobile devices and the Internet of Things. It will make our homes, cars and our lives more friendly to us, and our activities more effective.

Although this standard will become popular only in a few years, tests of this technology have been underway in various countries around the world for several months. It is no secret that China and the USA are the pioneers of development here, but it is in Finland and Estonia that a commercial version of the service has just been launched.

This big step was made by the operator named Elisa, who even started selling the 5G Internet access subscription service. The first customers can already benefit from super-fast access to the global network in Finnish Tampere and Estonian Talina.

At the moment the network is operating at 3.5 GHz and at 2.2 Gbps. During the official presentation of Anne Berner, the Finnish Minister of Transport and Communications held a videoconference with Juhan Partsem, the Estonian Minister of Economy. The operator Elisa prepared the technology and implemented it with the help of the Chinese giant Huawei.

Let us remind you that in July last year, the Minister of Digitization signed an agreement for the 5G Strategy for Poland. At that time, government agencies, scientists and entrepreneurs began working together towards the common goal of creating a fifth generation network. The Ministry wants this technology to start functioning in our country in two years' time, and in 7 years it will cover all cities and transport routes.
