Floating Windmills - Upcoming Evolution In Renewable Energy

As we have been taught from the beginning that non-renewable sources of energy are limited and we should rely more on Renewable sources of energyfor our daily needs. Since last 50 years, Renewable sources of energy have become more advanced and cheap. There are many sources of Renewable energy, say for example, Solar panels, Nuclear Power Plant, Water turbines and Wind Mills.
But the most clean and cheap source of Renewable energy are Windmills. Windmills are here since 1875, when the first windmill was created for grain-grinding and water pumping. But with time, Windmills have become more advanced and now they are being used commonly for electricity generation.

So, What is A Windmill and How It Works?

Windmills, also known as Wind Turbines, are a renewable source of energy to create electricity from free wind blowing in plains and coastal areas. A Windmill has three blades which are attached through a shaft directly to the turbine. These blades are controlled by a computer which changes their direction and pace according to the direction of wind. These blades move clockwise and in some cases, anti-clockwise to generate electricity.

With rotational movement of blades, the shaft connected to these blades rotate the turbine which in turn rotates the generator. A Windmill is capable of powering a small village on its own and a group of Windmills can power a small city efficiently and effectively.

But with time, an evolution is also needed in the technology of Windmills. So here it, in form of Floating Windmills.

What are Floating Windmills and their need?

Well, floating windmills works on the same principle as the fixed windmills but the only advantage is its efficacy. In case of fixed windmills, air get stuck among the trees and populated areas that's why it's velocity and speed gets reduced, as a result the blades of windmills are not able to produce enough electricity in a specific period of time. Cost increases as well as time.

Floating windmills as the name suggests would be floating on water offshores and the air is available in abundance blowing over the seas and oceans. As a result, the efficiency will increase abundantly with less time and cost.

Is there any Floating Windmills built already?

Well not yet, but they are work-in-progress or should I say, they are building as we speak. A group of Floating windmills are being build on the coast of North-East Scotland. It is said to be the World's largest Floating windmills project. The Scottish Government has approved the project and now the project is in progress, building eight Windmills generating enough electricity to power 50,000 homes. The company who's executing this project is named as Kincardine Offshore Windfarm Ltd. This project is also creating 110 jobs for engineers and architects connected with this project.

After this project is completed, there are other major projects yet to be set up by Scottish Government. So, it is pretty obvious that the Future of Renewable source of energy is bright. A study reveals that Half of the World's energy requirement would be met by Renewable source of energy by 2030 and by looking at the projects of Floating Windmills, it can be concluded that there is an evolution coming to the field of Renewable sources of energy.
