BBC Tomorrow's World: Mobile Phone 13 September 1979.

The year is 1979 and the first Mobile Phone Prototype in the UK is being tested on the BBC Tomorrow's World program. This is a great video for the younger generation to watch.

Credit: youtube/bbc

This video is taken from the BBC Archive "Tomorrow's World" collection and in it Michael Rodd the presenter at the time makes a phone call to demonstrate the cordless characteristics of the phone. Something that was alien to everyone at the time.

This British prototype was the first Mobile Phone in the UK and on the programme a test is carried out.

This is a great video to help appreciate that it was only 38 years ago that this took place.

In the opening slide I have superimposed the time stamp of this video on to the Evolution of Social Media to give you a perspective of time.

For the ones unfamiliar with my Blog I have included the original "Evolution of Social Media" slide that is also time stamped in the above slide.

EVOLUTION OF SOCIAL MEDIA

I am a strong believer that to get a clear picture of where we are heading you have to occasionally look back in the mirror for the answer and this is one of those occasions.

In the future people will look back at 2017 and recognise it as the year that Blockchain Technology revolutionised the way Data was stored, distributed and accessed on the Internet. A true Digital Revolution.

Thanks again for reading.

AWESOME. Thanks for sharing. As a techy geek in the 70's Tomorrows World was always my favourite. I don't recall seeing this clip but when I saw it earlier I just had to share it. A great one for the young ones to see life before Facebook..!! Stephen

Thank you @stephenkendal for always putting technology into a long-term perspective...As I was watching this documentary, I just started to laugh! Lol...How far we've come In such a short period of time...Can you imagine how they will explain the early days of Steemit:) & We are just at the beginning stages of this Social Media experiment...Exciting times ahead!

I could not agree more. Ask anyone in the twenties and thirties about telephone communications and they assume mobile phones had been around for decades before they were born..!! This is great educational clip for the young generation that in reality mobile phones are pretty much a new thing. Stephen

Awesome! Thank you Sir...Take care:)

We live in interesting times. Thank you for your article.

Ha ha ha priceless. I was at school when these Tomorrows World shows were on and I used to really look forward to seeing them.
I would love to see the one about when they made fiber optics.
I remember they had a competition to see if anyone could come up with how to use the technology. The best they could come up with was those lamps.
Little did we know that these glass fibre optic cables would very soon change the world as we know it as they would be used for the internet of course.
Thanks for the memory Stephen

Crazy really when you think about it. In the overall scheme of things what's 38 years? It's barely a snapshot in time and yet so much has happened technically. We are in exciting times. Stephen

Great clip. It is funny how the imagined the wireless phone...

You're absolutely right, it is a great clip and just shows how things were being thought about at that time. I saw it earlier and felt compelled to share it for the benefit of the younger generation. Stephen
