Facebook users reached 2 billion per month

Facebook announced yesterday that the number of users of its social network to 2 billion active users per month.

"By this morning, the Facebook community has officially reached 2 billion people," wrote CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a leaflet on his page.

Facebook was founded in February 2004 and reached its first billion users in October 2012. Every day more than 800 million people "like" something on the Web site.

On this occasion, Facebook has begun offering new features to users that will be able to benefit from in the next few days, focusing specifically on Facebook communities.

According to Zuckerberg, there are 100 million users in targeted communities, but he wants this number to rise to one billion.

That's nice to see. However, Facebook's aim to try connecting everyone in the world still has a lot to do. Poor countries may not have good access to the Internet. Large economies like China do not allow its people to use Facebook. By the way, the Facebook friend recommendation is really great to help me find friends not in contact for a long lomg time!

2 billion users, that was population of world in 1927!

You just have to wonder what happens to all that information we so freely give? Predictive modeling comes to mind actually. Wonder what Zuckerberg is really referring to with "targeted" communities? And why is 100X more growth needed?
