Samsung CF791 Ultrawide Monitor Review
The Samsung CF791 is Samsung's premium ultrawide model, built for productivity and gaming. With a silver finish, the 21:9 monitor is equipped with a game mode, up to 100hz and multiple display ports. Coming in at roughly $750, I'll give you my opinion on the monitor and let you know if it's a worthwhile purchase.
What I like
100hz Refresh rate
One of the biggest reasons why playing games on PC is always better than on console, is the fact that you can play at 60fps. The CF791 lets you run games up to 100fps with its high refresh rate, which makes games look flawless and enhances game experiences.21:9 Aspect ratio
Most people who work from home or spend a majority of their time on their PC's tend to use dual monitor setups. Ultrawides give you the screen real estate that dual monitors offer, but at a single screen. This makes your setup look and perform better without the need to have programs on multiple screens.Ports and speakers
The monitor cames with 2 HDMI ports, a display port, 2 usb ports and a headphone jack all on the monitor. This makes it great for adding LED lighting to the back with the built-in usb ports and connecting not only your PC but consoles to the monitor.
What I don't like
High price
The CF791 definitely isn't a cheap purchase, if you wait for a sale you can grab one for around $600, but it's still a big hit to the wallet for those who don't have a lot of income.Ease of use
While this is more of a problem with how Windows 10 works, it's an issue prevalent with ultrawides. There just isn't a simple way of getting more than two windows to snap to where you need them. This means having to go through a third-party like Display Fusion, which costs or Bug.n, which isn't beginner friendly.Game support
When games run at a 21:9 aspect ratio and 100hz refresh rate, games look absolutely stunning. But if you play a lot of Japanese games or games made by indie developers, there can sometimes be issues when attempting to run games. There's a big community of gamers that help come up with solutions and fixes, but this may be too much for the average consumer who wants ease of use.
Final thoughts
Before purchasing the CF791 I was using a dual monitor setup and regularly got neck fatigue from having to maneuver between two monitors, I haven't gotten that same fatigue once moving up to an ultrawide display. The CF791 delivers excellent experiences in both gaming and productivity and I don't think I could ever go back to a traditional 16:9 monitor after using one. If you have the money to drop on a new monitor and have been in the market for one, I highly recommend taking a look at the Samsung CF791 as it doesn't get as much love as it deserves.
