Joining The Tech Field -- How you can enter the Tech Field from another career path

I just wanted to write up a quick post on how YOU can find yourself into the technology field. A little bit about myself, I'm currently a service desk technician and have worked for multiple companies and many different roles. There's quite a few different ways to try and get your feet wet and join the technology field, I'll just be listing a few.

1. Getting a job at a help desk. A common way to start your career into the technology field is to find a position for a help desk job. You'll be doing password resets, basic account setup, basic troubleshooting, and must have general customer skills. The best way to get into a position such as this is to obtain a Comptia A+ or Network+ certification. If you have no degree or skills in the IT field, the Comptia A+ will prepare you for the basics of technology. From this field, you'll be able to branch out to other areas of work once you have enough experience (system admin, network admin)

2. The other main path that I see most people taking is becoming a programmer or "system analyst." If you have absolutely no education in this field and are wanting to break into it, be prepared to put forth some effort. My suggestion is that you sign up for a github account and start learning programming with just a single language. Many people have different ideas on what languages to start on, but I'll always suggest Python. You can start learning python by going to https://automatetheboringstuff.com/ and going through this course and completing it (COMPLETELY FREE.) Once you've got the basics of Python down, you'll need to find real world projects that you can add to your portfolio in github. The main way that you'll be getting interviews for jobs is by having a substantial portfolio in github.
