Nice post. Built in obsolescence is sadly the way of the world now. Perfectly good devices getting thrown out simply because companies stop supporting them (as you mention apple).

The ink one is extremely annoying, some you can reset if you can find the hidden button but most as you mention have chips which once its marked as empty even though we know it's not it won't work.
