Introducing the Ultimate Badass USS Gerald Ford Super Carrier

in #technology8 years ago

This US$12.9 billion ship is the most expensive and most advanced ship ever built in the history of the world. It is the first in a new series of “Super Carriers” the US Navy is rolling out for the next couple of decades at least.

Its capabilities far surpass that of any of its predecessors along with all of its delays and cost over runs. Once it’s up and running it will be the monster of the seas.

Named after the 38th President of the USA Gerald Ford who came in to power after Nixon resigned in a scandal. Ford was considered by many Americans as being very in touch with the common citizen.

Let’s take a look at what it will do and what makes it better than the current most powerful ships.

“The ship will be equipped with two newly-designed reactors and has 250 percent more electrical capacity than previous carriers. The improvements will allow the ship to load weapons and launch aircraft faster than ever before.” www.thefordclass.com

“The carrier’s sensory array has received an overhaul with the addition of an integrated active electronically scanned array (AESA) search-and-tracking radar system. This new system has no moving parts, so it therefore minimizes maintenance and crew requirements for operation. Further, advanced AESA radars enable the ship and aircraft to broadcast powerful signals while remaining stealthy, which greatly improves combat effectiveness.” Marketwatch.com

It has more flight deck and can launch and land 25% more flights than the next best US aircraft carrier.
Loaded up with Laser cannons that can shoot down missiles and fighter jets in an instant with surgical precision; Thanks to the new electricity generators less ammo will be needed to be stored opening room up space for more jets and better technology.

TheEvolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) defends against high-speed, highly maneuverable anti-ship missiles, and the weapon system of choice is the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM). One must not forget various Gatling and heavy machine gun mounts as well as 75-plus aircraft ready to be launched at any given time. Marketwatch.com

“Dynamic Armor or Electric Armour is a type of armor which has been proposed for the protection of ships from shaped charge weapons. The idea is that the system uses a strong electric field to disrupt the jet of ionized gas produced by the warhead.[1] The system has been proposed as an upgrade to the Gerald R. Ford-class supercarriers” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Armor

A very cool ship that’s sure to keep America at the top of the seas. Once they get it working.
As of today it seems useless to launch or land jets, yet.
