Is Windows Phone Dead?

According to multiple Microsoft insiders, the company hasn't completely lost interest in @Windows Mobile/phone and the hardware (Surface Phone) that could run the Operating System. Microsoft still flirts with the idea of being a major player in the smartphone industry.

Microsoft is currently testing a new smartphone (Could be Surface Phone) running “a separate branch of Windows Mobile.” The Surface Phone is expected to be Microsft's new smartphone running the new OS. The Surface Phone is expected to come with some revolution and is expected to run X86 apps. Both the Surface Phone and the new version of Windows Mobile are still in early stages of development, which means Microsoft might cancel the project at any time if the results are not encouraging.
