One of my 2 Leather sewing machines. Singer 201-2 and a Tippman Boss hand stitcher (No electric needed)

in #technology7 years ago

Hey guys. Just thought I would share some pics of my old time Singer and Boss stitch machines. This one is a Singer 201-2 which is an unusual model and more rare. This machine was called the Rolls Royce of Singers since the Rolls Royce company used this model to do all the leather work for their cars. What makes it unusual is that it had a direct drive potted motor(Gear driven). Notice the black pot on the rear. Most all the singers used a belt drive to an external motor mounted somewhere else. Anytime you tried to go through any thick material the belt would slip causing the machine to stop. This direct drive being gear driven just punches through leather like no ones business. The light to work by is also mounted at the front. All other machines its mounted at the back which made it hard to see your work. Very nice classic machine is super condition. This thing runs like a train.

The next one I just purchased runs only by hand power. Pull the crank handle on the right and it does one stitch through 3/4 of an inch of hard veg tan leather. They say it can stitch up to an inch of leather but not recommended. This thing can be taken to flea markets or street shops to use for repairs. No electric, only human power. Super tough and portable. Not cheap either. The price on one of these is over $1500.00 without all the accessories. If you want the attached flat bed and other accessories including the bench, you can get upwards to $2500.00. Too steep for many. I did get all the goodies including the bench. I think it is a good investment for a leather shop.

Getting used to this one. Going to be somewhat of a learning curve.

I still do a lot of my work handstitched. No machine can match a handstitched product for quality.

As always thanks for looking.

I enjoyed reading about your machines. I love that Singer

Thanks. I really like it. Great shape for its age. Never been repainted.

Great all the best with the work!
