You Can Now Ride Your Suitcase Through The Airport

Technology has always made human life more convenient, fun and in some cases, weird. The Modobag combines exactly these three qualities into a suitcase that you can ride.

If you look at the history of travel, our luggage has evolved lots of time over the decades. At first, people used to use large and heavy trunks to take their belongings with them, much like in the Harry Potter movies.

Then came the suitcase which was made of more lightweight materials and made things easier. The real innovation happened when someone attached wheels to these suitcases and it got a whole lot easier.

It seems like we were still not satisfied, or at least the team behind the Modobag wasn’t, because they have come up with a suitcase that you can ride on!

Before you start thinking about how you would like riding one or about its practicality, let me tell you about some of it’s specs that I found really cool.

Speed

The company is touting a speed upto 8 miles per hour upto a distance of 6 miles on a single charge. Also, it can carry a person weighing upto 260 pounds (118 kilos).

That’s more than 2.5 times the speed of walking which can be a really great time saver in case of those emergencies where you are just about to miss the plane.

Luggage Capacity

Of course one of the biggest concerns would be the luggage capacity. It really wouldn’t work if all the space is taken by the ‘ride mechanism’.

So, the company has managed to retain 80% of its capacity. So, you might have to pack a little less clothes.

Tracking

If you install the app on your phone, you can also do a real-time GPRS tracking of the suitcase and it allows you to set up a proximity alert so you’ll be notified if you get too far away from your modobag.

Charging Station

The Modobag also allows you to charge your electronic devices via its 2 USB ports. So, you can charge your phone or tablet on the go (literally). You might want to watch the amount of charging though as you would want to save it for the ride.

The battery inside the Modobag can fully charge in just an hour (wow!) and has a capacity of 4000 full charge cycles which is a really important metric specially if you travel frequently.

Approvals

The Modobag is fully approved by the TSA and FAA as a carry-on piece. So, there will be no worries of any troubles at the airport and can ride the thing freely throughout with the song playing in your head (or on the phone), “They see me rolling….they hatin’……”

Release Date

The company’s Indiegogo page states that the Modobag will be available in May of this year and the price will be just above $1000. That’s a hefty price but for a technology like this, I’m sure people will throw their money at it.

In the early 2000s, I predicted that cellphones would become devices that could unfold into hover-scooters.

We shall see...

@shayne

I don't know about hover-scooters but foldable cellphones are coming in the next few years. All the major tech companies have prototypes ready and when they figure out how to mass produce them, they will become a reality!

It looks mega cool! But slightly out of budget in my case ^^

It certainly is. Yes, right now it's out of budget for most people (including me). But as is the case with technology, it will get cheaper with time with different companies coming up with their own but similar offerings. Then we could all just be rolling around on our suitcases :D :D

Totally. At the end, it is not very important if I am not the first ;)

This is too funny but surely can see a lot of those coming handy for many people! Now, I wonder when there will be lights and pedestrian crossings in airports!?! Thanks for sharing. Namaste :)

yeah, it's funny for sure, watching adults riding on these just like kids do with their toy cars and stuff. HAHA!

not sure if it is the same but i read about something like that before and i was like...
i want to ride this on the road.

I haven't read about it before and the company claims that they are the first ones to do it. Maybe you heard about this when it was still in the prototype stage. Anyways, it would be really cool to not drag your suitcases all the way and simply ride them :D

Could be the same company.

This world is AWESOME!!! :)

It is indeed! :)

That is so awesome! Could it drive you to your hotel aswell?

I don't think you would be allowed to ride it from the airport to the hotel :P

Yes... such a shame! What a boring world we live in ;-)

haha! Agreed! This suitcase is a step in the right direction though :D

(grabs popcorn and away we go)

Got to get one of these!

Good find!

:D

Yeah, it's a really cool product. One that I would definitely like to grab!
Hope it works as well as it is advertised :)

I wonder who is going to get it first and post it on Steemit

:p

wow that would be awesome to see someone on steemit to get their hands on it and post about it! :D possibly including a video ;)

The people riding the suitcases are on a set. There's no way to be that happy in a real airport. ;)

haha I don't know if they are really in a real airport but I surely agree. Nobody can be that happy in an airport! Maybe this suitcase will change that? :D

A very cool & interesting application of Electric vehicles (EVs). Tbh, it looks very dumb, and very fun to drive at the same time. :p

haha I am with you on this one. It looks dumb yet fun. I think the fun part will overcome the dumb part and we can soon see people everywhere behave like kids ;)

Way, way cool.... ;) Thanks!

😄😇😄

@creatr

It certainly is COOL and FUN :D
