Yes, it has been happening throughout the history but it will happen at a faster rate now and will cover a lot more jobs than before. In the coming years the whole job structure will change and there will be new jobs while old ones get obsolete. Only time will tell how it will be like.

But I am optimistic about the outcome, something which appears to be rare since pessimism about this aspect is omnipresent (though your piece gave a nice neutral point of view, without the doom and gloom I am used to reading with regards to that aspect.)
I like to be positive too. Somehow, I have this feeling that we will make it. We always have :)
It is quite hard to fathom truly how many jobs will be lost due to improvements in AI, 3d-printing,robotics and automation. So many will be surprised. Those under 20 will probably get to see a world where most services will have been taken over.
