Virtual Reality, the new reality.

Hi, I hope you’re all fine. Here goes the first article of new series about Augment and Virtual Reality. The reason I am writing about this now, is because I think our lives is going to change (probably is already happening), completely with those technologies around us. From the way we interact with people, the way we interact with objects, even on the way we make business all are going to be affected.

Technology fields are one of the fastest growing fields, coming across with a lot of disruptive innovation which try to make our task as simple as possible, making our life better. One of those greatest technology I found interesting is Virtual Reality, which is the new way we can experience new things without to much effort.

Virtual Reality is one of my favorite technology, because can make me experience wonderful things which I thought could only possible on my dreams.

What is Virtual Reality?

Virtual reality(VR) is an artificial environment that is created with a software and using a computer, to present the new environment to the user making possible to experience with his sense, like sight and sound.(source: techtarget)

Virtual reality in other words, means being completely immersed in a computer simulation environment, enable users to perform some actions like in real world. Using appropriated equipment you can interact with object listen to the environment sound and much more.

But we live in a real world, why virtual ?

This is such a great question, let’s face this:

Imagine you have no experience flying a real aircraft. First, you should have some practical lessons before going start a real flight. It could be dam dangerous picking directly a real plane, and start to try to fly around, who knows what probably could happen. But if we could make those experience in a safer place, without putting risk around it, would be much better. Here is were where came Virtual Reality.

In a simulated environment we have a simulated plane, with all features, commands like real one so we can measure our abilities before going to the real plane. How this is awesome.

What can we really do with virtual reality?

There remain too many applications with this technology, let's see some of them below

Education

We all know how is our current education, completely theoretical, no practical lessons to measure how much we know. One of the reason why this happens is a lack of material because it cost to much money to support a simple experimentation. In a virtual world we could do all of these, without fear of dedestroyinghe equipment because we are safe there, and the real environment is too. Up there is an image illustrating a guy having some practical lessons of a test drive, with a simulated environment and all features he need to make a real experience.

Medical training

Dealing with people lives is a serous thing. With a simulated surgery environment surgeons are able to practice technical skills without risking the real patients life. One of the advantage of the technology in this field is that we can develop active learning as we are going to put in practice what we learn in the classroom.

Engineer

Now we are able to see our 3D prototype products in which angle we want without being limited by a 2D display like traditional one. This make the ability to get full details of the product. This approach has been used on some areas like aerospace and automobile prototyping.

Game

I think we all have played some games, but now the experience on how we did that is changing. We able to interact on full immerse VR game . To send commands all we need are some sensors, witch can be some gloves, or special clothes to track you movement and convert to data to translate to a movement on virtual environment. Recently one of the big tech firm, Sony has launch PlayStation VR.

Business

The way we do business is changing. Now we can attend a meeting with different people from another country without need to travel. The way we can do that, is by using virtual conference rooms. Another benefit of that is, we can make a team to a project with people from different counties being able to interact like a face to face presence.

Train to space

Space mission is real a big and hard task. There is no space for fail there. That’s why NASA has build a simulated environment to training they astronauts before landing the space. They can experience zero gravity with especial clothing, do the maintenance, making the simulation completely real.

There is more field where Virtual Reality is gain space. I think there is such a great opportunity to employers who will invest on this skills, as more company are recruiting.
