CCleaner - yes, it was hacked; no, it's not the end of the world

A quick post as I'm seeing a few crappy posts in the technology section on this, but they don't give the full story. Frankly, a quick Google search can confirm this on your end, but I had a few minutes so I'll save you the keystrokes:

1. CCleaner was hacked in version 5.33, where the installer while digitally signed installed malware onto users' PCs. CCleaner Cloud 1.07.3191 is also reportedly affected.
2. This malware is not present in the current 5.34 version. If you update, you'll be fine. CCleaner Cloud should update automatically.
3. The malware's design is that of a botnet, where a "command and control" function is in place. The malware can take administrative privileges. The malware also had a kind of kill switch based on domain registration, similar to the global crypto attack a couple months ago, which Talos was able to exploit and prevent their use by the attackers.
4. The malware only affects 32-bit PCs which comprise a relatively small segment of the Windows 10 market. Windows 10 does support 32-bit, albeit reluctantly as 32-bit Windows can only address up to 4GB of RAM. While this could still be over 2 million users, it is not going to affect most Windows PCs purchased and set up since the release of Windows 10.
5. No, this does not mean that your Mac is better than my PC. Stop it.

P.S. Piriform was bought by Avast in July - wouldn't be surprised if this is related.
