The Future of Cognitive Computing: Computers that will out-smart humans
There is no limit to the potentials embedded in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Like it has been said:
"A perfectly advanced technology is almost indistinguishable from magic"
A new trail that is being blazed in the field of Artificial Intelligence is called Cognitive Computing (CC).
This is purely an advanced combination of Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence. This is a technology that mimics the human brain and simulates human thoughts through computerized system.
That means, the computer can learn the way humans do (through neural links).
Infographics of Cognitive Computing
A recent Survey has discovered that over 2.5 exabytes of data are being processed daily. This is so huge, you'd agree with me. But the human brain, on the maximum, can only store roughly 1 petabyte (1 million gigabyte) of data. With this exponential growth in data processing, in the next 30years, there could be a rise to 4 zetabyte of data (the hard disks that will hold this size of data will cover 4x the size of Antarctica). Definitely, this will lead to Computational Anomaly.
The feasible answer to this lies in the advancement of Cognitive Computing.
Limitations exceeded
In the quest to find the solution to this insane computational anomaly, IBM has charted the course in the era of Cognitive Computing. They are currently designing AI-based machines that will focus on gathering data from human experiences, processing it, and will ultimately use it to improve machine learning, and can even teach humans (These machines, as presumed, will be smarter than humans).
"Humans need to brace up for this"
AI is fast evolving, that it is not surprising to see them performing far beyond humans. We all know when the champion of "GO" was defeated by an AI (DeepMind, from Google). We have also seen AIs that can compose songs - impressive, isn't it?
The reservations humans have here with this kind of tech is: what if this system becomes too self-aware and decides to wage war against humans; just like "Terminator: Rise of the machines"?
Asides that; the benefits of Cognitive Computing are enormous in the field of AI, to help out with the limitations of human intelligence. And soon, this era will be fully heralded.
