The Future of Augmented Humans: Evolution in Bionic Humans

in #technology7 years ago

It is a fact that in this era of AI-based Cybernetics, any part of humans can be transformed into Cyborg (bionics). What will this tech leave humanity with? Well, we'll find out later.

Meet the first willing bionic woman

Before now, people have volunteered for various medical procedures, but none has ever volunteered for Bionic transformation. All that changed with "Viktoria Modesta". She has willingly 'submitted' herself for bionic transformation.

Her first transformation was the amputation of her left limb and replacing it with a cybernetic one, and hoping to take out other parts too (Transformative Technology or insanity?).

Before you judge her, you need to know the history behind her choice for bionic transformation.

She was born in the USSR; current Russia, in 1988. During the time of her birth, she suffered a severe accident that created a serious deformity in her left leg. After undergoing series of reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries, she finally gave in to Bionic transformation. This is just a summary of the path along her history lane. But this has not changed the fast that she is a very talented song-writer and artist.

Concerns on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Bionics

There have been many reservations about Artificial Intelligence from the human community. One of these reservations is: Will the potentials of humans be intimidated by these enhanced bionics?

In the words of Elon Musk:

"The era of Artificial Intelligence could possibly lead to the end of humanity" -Elon Musk {Paraphrased by me}

This has really been seen as a potential threat to humanity. Also, in this era, how will the human-machine symbiotic relationship be sustained, knowing that we're already at war with machines?

Stephen Hawkings, the great physicist of our time, has also shown his own reservations about AI, he said:

"Artificial intelligence has the potential to destroy mankind" -Stephen Hawkings {Paraphrased by me}

I think there should be a regulatory body to oversee the activities of these enhanced bionic humans. Just like the way you license guns, they should license bionic body parts too (my opinion though). But definitely, the laws of robotics won't work on them, because they're still humans within.

The future will be very interesting in regards to robots and especially AI.

If you look at the videos of what these guys at Boston Robotics are doing.... some of these robots and their current AI are kind of scary. It's probably for the better that they are currently limited in what they're able to do with regards to making their own decisions.

But currently a whole lot more can be done. Seen a video of a virtual test of and AI of a robot with limbs that thought itself stand up, walk and eventually run through an entire obstacle course. Learning along the way.

Interesting but scary

True; the field of robotics and artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly that in the future, we may find it difficulty to differentiate between humans and machines. I hope that by then, the three laws of robotics will not be contravened

next generation technology .nice informative
