Technology fueling loneliness.

in #technology6 years ago

If you have ever gotten in a state where you wanted someone to talk to about your problems and you couldn't find anyone, then you've experienced loneliness and probably know how much it hurts. The advancement in technology and social media have been influential in the record number of cases of loneliness around the world. Gadgets are becoming cheaper as time passes by and it's very unlikely to find a person even in a 3rd World country with no smart phone. These have reduced face-to-face interactions that even with people around you, you can still feel lonely as everyone around would be occupied by the gadget in their hands.

This kind of living has given loneliness a foundation to grow larger in our lives and the communities we live in. Loneliness is now having adverse effects on people's lives especially their mental wellbeing. Most people keep their thoughts to themselves especially problems which they do not feel free to share with their colleagues. In the end they don't get help for what they are facing which is enough to create depression in their lives. With time, one gets a feeling of not being accepted in the society which is unhealthy for the mind.

It's important that we stop counting the number of friends we have and resort to how best we connect with them. One or two friends who are willing to listen to you are a lot better than thousands of followers on social media who you can't physically access. Understanding this will give you a happier and healthier life.
