3D Printed car

Will we be able to print a car from a 3D printer?
This not a question anymore, it is already a reality. The car in the photo above was printed in 2015 and was the 3rd prototype printed by the company "Local Motors" This car took about 40 hours to print.

The Strati is the world's first 3D printed car, and was printed on a large scale 3D printer. The car is printed with thermoplastic which is a fully recyclable material. When the car is damaged beyond repair in an accident you can melt the material and use it to print a new car!!

The mudguards of the car was printed separately, thus only the mudguards need to be replaced after a small accident.

The body of the car is manufacture as one unit, making it very strong and simple.

As can be seen from the photo below the car was very crude and quite rough, as you could see the printing layers clearly.

If you look at the photo at the top of the page you can however see that the sides which was milled looks, quite smooth.

The Strati used a golf cart motor and rear wheel drive. The number of parts used in this car is considerably less than in conventional cars,

The photo below is of the LM3D, which is a 2016 model. As can be seen this car already looks much more refined, than the Strati. About 75% of this car is printed. The material used is about 80% plastic and 20% carbon fiber. It took about 2 months from design to prototype. As can be seen this will revolutionize the manufacture of cars and quicken the time from design to manufacture considerably.

This also open up the possibility to build one off customized, cars at a low cost.

You should be able to purchase a LM3D by the end of this year if all goes according to plan!!
