The Self-recovering Material Of The Future

in #technology7 years ago

A group of chemists from the University of California at Riverside have created a self-recovering material that can conduct electricity. It could also be used as a display for smartphones.

The material has excellent scratching and breaking resistance capabilities. If it is broken into two, it takes less than a day to recover its original state. It can also stretch 50 times its initial length. At the base of the material are non-covalent bonds known as ion-dipole interaction. So if it is damaged or broken, the ions and molecules attract each other, restoring the surface.
"It may seem that self-recovering material can be used in the distant future, but I'm sure it will soon appear in mobile phones. After about three years, they will be on the market and will change our everyday lives,"Van says.

The material can also be used in robotics and biosensors. How cool is that!? - Source

Wow! Sounds like human skin but for electronic technologies..... the applications would be life changing to say the least. Thank you for posting about it. I'll be interested in seeing how this is applied over the next few years especially with augmented reality and wearables become more prevalent.

With this maybe they can finally fly to the Moon?

Good thing is that you didn't sell.

Oh I didn't know anyone would want to pay for them. Anyway, all my restro will be active again, hopefully soon!
