Well, we should be seeing cyborgs soon or later.
The concept of pre-collision system in automobiles is a good example of IA as you stated (i just got to know it is IA today).
Man and machine merger would definitely bring out the best from both and make us a better world..

And awesomely enough; we already have cyborgs with us. You can read up on the story of "Neil Harbisson", the colour-blind man that has an antenna implemented into his brain that makes him hear colour.
