RE: Ep.3📲 The Attention Revolution - Mass Adaptation

in #technology7 years ago

@mrs.steemit, very interesting and thought provoking post... enjoyed hearing your thoughts!

The future is always hard to predict; what will people adopt, what will they not? Just like we have these amazing inventions that changed the course of history, we also have a trail of great ideas that became nothing... whether it was the choice of Edison's electricity, rather than Tesla's... VHS vs Beta; CDs beating out Laser Discs.

In other words, a great and revolutionary idea is no guarantee of mass adoption and paradigm change.

I like watching meta trends in society... seems to me a large part of current shifts (towards the "attention economy," among other things) can be attributed back to a broader shift that's making "things" less important than "experiences." The old paradigm still tries to keep us addicted to consuming "objects" but as Millennials age "stuff" will continue to lose ground, and "ideas" will gain; the idea of "work" will grow independent of location and "production" of anything... in many ways, Steemit is at the bleeding edge of that trend.

How far decentralization will go remains to be seen... humans tend to be tribal and seek like-kind; even loners will confess that they belong to "the tribe of loners," so I'd suggest we all need to be cautious that we don't throw away the positives of centralized structures with the proverbial bath water.

Thank you! I agree the future isn't certain, but the direction is, by looking just like you stated at trends. I personally want to see decentralization, freedom and fairness spread across the world.
