The problem is that most people simply do not understand the technology and the massive potential for misuse/abuse. Facial recognition technology doesn't just scan your face and check just your face versus your face on file. Facial recognition is just one tiny aspect of it. It doesn't just use data-points of your face, it uses data-points about you.

Your biometric facial profile links to a profile with your personal information. Name, address, phone, email, employment, next of kin, etc. Just think of all the information you have ever provided on a government form, all that information about you will be used, not just your face.

Then there's all the government monitoring of any and all internet or telecommunications traffic including phone calls, text messages, emails, pictures, websites visited, and everything else you do online, that's more data-points the government can use to build your profile.

And with corporations and governments working more hand in hand and sharing information it's not just government data about you that can be used against you but potentially corporate data about you, so everything you 'like' and all those personal messages and pictures you've ever sent over a corporate server may also potentially be added to your profile.

Are you people okay with all that information being collected and accessed by governments and corporations? Are you really willing to give up so much of your privacy and freedom for the illusion of safety and security? Or are you so willing to put a slave collar around your own neck in the name of 'convenience' and having a line move faster?

And what about the continual push for automation and eventually AI. Just think about all the many laws there are, and just think that an automated/AI system could use facial recognition to detect you committing a crime like jaywalking or walking on the grass and automatically send you a fine (or just deduct straight from your account with the cashless society being pushed).

While facial recognition may have some beneficial uses the way it's being pushed and implimented by governments around the world it's not for our benefit, it's for our enslavement.
