Tracking hurricane Harvey!

in #technology7 years ago

Posting a quick small first blog to get things started. Hope you enjoy it.

I am quite sure everybody is aware of the hurricane that has hit the coast of Texas (USA). This post is rather late, but nevertheless I would like to share this website https://earth.nullschool.net/
This easy tool allows you to live track the location and measure the strength of this tornado.
I have not only been using this map to track storms, it also comes in handy for water sport lovers or weather enthusiasts.

The tornado named Harvey has been increasing in strength over the last couple of days and is now losing its power while above land. Really good news as this will reduce the amount of casualties and destruction!

The world map allows you to see the following data;
Wind direction
Wind strength
Wave direction
Wave height
Currents
Pollution/Chemicals in the air
Air temperature

The data can be shown in 8 different view, for example below the waves are projected in a equirectangular view.

It does not only show a live feed of the current weather conditions it can also forecast weather, making use of the Global Forecast System (GFS).
I might have missed something, but if you play around in the menu for a bit you will be able to find all functions. By clicking within the map you can measure local values.

I hope you find this useful and spend some time to follow the current hurricanes or just your local breeze.

If you like quick interesting blogs about technical subjects please give a like, follow or comment. I will be putting up more in the short future.

Thank you.
