I've binned Dropbox!steemCreated with Sketch.

For years now I’ve laboured with the problems with Dropbox. I have over 800Gb of files in various locations across my computers.

The way that Dropbox is design, all of your files need to exist under a single folder, and need to be present. This means that I have to have a 800+Gb folder with all my files in. I know I can selectively sync files, but then I have no view of them on that computer.

If I have a folder structure on a second disk I can’t put that up - it needs to exist on the drive with the dropbox folder on it. It drives me MAD!

So I had a look around the web and came across pCloud. It works in a similar way to Dropbox, but provides you with a Sync window from there you can add folders from your computer that you want included in your cloud sync, simple!

It also gives you a representation of those files and not the original file, so while you may have over 800Gb of files in your cloud, the space that pCloud folder takes up (where you files ‘are’) is tiny which is great if you have a laptop with minimal space on it but you still want full access to your whole library!

It also comes with some other funky features like backing up all of your social network images and videos, Facebook, Instagram, GoogleDrive…. and putting them in an easy folder structure for you.

It's amazing if you're travelling and have only a Laptop. You still get to retain all access to all your images and have a small footprint on your laptop.

So there. I've signed up to the 2Tb plan which is about $90USD at the moment nd have said Adios to Dropbox.

I am in no way affiliated with pCloud nor do I or will I receive any payment in anyway for this. I just think it’s great, and I love it!

Dropbox - you're in the bin!

Thanks for sharing - I'm out of space and haven't renewed my dropbox because of the pain in the arse that it ends up being. Does it have a decent mobile app too? Curious to see how they execute on mobile.

What about the longevity of the company? Seems legit?

I’ve run the free version for the past 3 months and it’s worked great. Works on my android, iPhone and what’s more Lynux!

I can’t attest to longevity. I think they’ve been around for 3 or 4 years. I read here they have around 7 million users.

Is that $90/month or $90/annually? I have been investigating setting up "ownCloud" (https://owncloud.org/) on a local server or Synology NAS. But that takes management and depends on my Internet uptime.

They have a lifetime subscription or an annual or monthly one.

Currently they have a 89 usd for a year subscription. That’s gives you 2Tb.
