The definition of technology varies worldwide with different understanding and meanings. Technology could be defined as the use and application of scientifical techniques in our daily lives to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, and standard of living. It could also be described as process, techniques, methods or products used for the simplification of our daily lives. It can also be explained as; extraction, processing, creation, energy generation and production through scientific knowledge. It is the application of science in human life and manipulation of human habitat. Technology is applied highly in our lives, for work, communication, learning, transportation, etc.

The growth and development of modern technology is quite helpful in difficult ways. It has brought huge change in the world which is now of great importance to mankind.

Different ways in which technology has helped

• Technology has helped greatly at the health sectors and medical level. It has contributed highly in the invention of medication for eradication of diseases and invention of medical devices such as human stabilizers, thermometers, human scanners etc. The use of technology also helps to treat more population of sick people and save many lives unlike human hands which is greatly limited.

• Technology has also enabled easy access to information. This also helps in the educational sectors, the invention of small gadgets such as ipads, iphones, androids, etc. Enables easy access to information through the internet. These gadgets can access search engines or web browsers which will enable users gain full access to information through the World Wide Web (WWW)

• The evolution of technology has enhanced the level o communication. The invention of communicating tools such as e-mail, mobile phones etc has been used as a great interaction of people with great distance easier. The use of post office for sending of letters or distant people have now stopped because modern technology has made it easier to receive messages through mobile phones in few minutes.

• Technology has also helped in the business sectors. The use of technology by businessmen and women to perform various tasks helps to save money and time and also leads to increase in productivity. The invention of computers have made it easy for business to carry out their daily transactions online such as e-commerce. It also helps in keeping accurate records of transactions without stress.

• Technology has helped to improve the rate of production in the agricultural industry. Human labour has been replaced with machines which makes work to be done smoothly and easily. The invention of tractors, tilling machines etc have made agriculture easy for farmers and production more effective.

Technology also has it's negative effects which cannot be overlooked. Just as technology has helped man kind, it has also done some harms to man in different ways, never forget everything has disadvantage and advantage.

Due to technology weapons such as guns, explosives, bombs etc have all been invented. When this weapons fall into the wrong hands, they are used in causing havoc, chaos and harm to both humans and the environment. For example, during an atomic explosion, there is blood spillage and this will lead to environmental destruction and pollution. Unemployment is also a demerit of technology. Some basic inventors such as robots are now used in carrying out different operations meant for humans, hence leading to loss of job or demotion. Although the use of these inventions helps the business effectively. It could make human hands to be needless thus causing decrease in job and employment opportunities (the devices replaces the human mind).

Due to the rate at which technology enables easy access to the internet through ipads, computers, laptops, Iphones, students who learn via e-learning could stumble upon pornographic site thus influencing them negatively.

Also humans have come to depend wholly on technology even for minor things which can be easily done by the human mind. People struggle to spell or even do calculations, they depend wholly on the use of calculators, or computer correctors. Thus, technology has made many lazy. They no longer think with the human minds or even make little effort.

In conclusion

Technology has lots of advantages, merits and benefits, it renders service to man and also has it's disadvantages, demerits and detriments.
