Scientists for the very first time will do an expedition of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean using 360-degree virtual reality (VR), they will be documenting their discovery’s so that the general-public can get glimpse of what our life under the ice shelf looks like. To date, we have explored less than five percent of the ocean. In the last 20 years, there has been a veritable explosion of Deep-water exploration, with extensive sub-sea surveys for anchors and pipelines, as well as oil well infrastructure.

The Antarctic and Southern Ocean play a powerful role in the interaction between the world's oceans, climate and biodiversity, researchers said.   

"The aim is to raise awareness about the unique and fragile Antarctic coastal under-ice ecosystems and the broader effect climate change might have on the ecosystems and the whole planet. Climate change affects the whole world, including the waters of Antarctica," said Professor Alf Norkko from University of Helsinki  

 The expedition will use a strong arctic vehicle, which pulls the entire equipment, weighing 22 tons in total. The group will have two snow mobiles, 32 cameras, three drones and one ROV, which is a small remotely controlled submarine and five 360-degree VR cameras with them.

  Virutal Reality naturally, comes from the definition of both being “a reality” and “Virtual”. The definition of virtual is being a near reality humans are able to experience technologically, so the term virtual reality basically means a “near-reality” field of existence. Everything that we have known about our reality comes from a combination of sensory information and our brain making-mechanism’s that are sensing out our entire experience, putting it shortly our reality is well made-up information that you can presently sense so that your perception will also change to the response of that information.

  Types of Animals Known to live in Antarctica

1. There are 4 different types of seals in Antarctica Leopard, Crabeater, Weddell, and  Southern Elephant. 
2. There are approximately 200 species of fish in the Antarctic waters.  
3. There are about 120 different species of notothenioids, a class of fish that contains glycoproteins in its blood. The glycoproteins attach to small ice crystals in the fish's body and work as an anti-freeze, enabling the fish to be able to live in waters with temperatures as low as 28°F. 
4. Antarctica waters are full of types of whales looking to eat fish, squid, plankton, and penguins the types of whales in Antarctica are Killer Whale, Humpback Whale, Orca, and the largest animal on earth the blue whale. 
5. The World’s Favorite black and white fluffy friends the penguin has spent most of their time in the water or raising their chicks on land, there are however 17 species of penguins in the world and 7 are in antartica, those are Adelie, Emperor, Chinstrap, Gentoo, King, Macaroni, and the Rockhopper penguin.
