Construction of Lagos Forth Mainland Bridge; Using the technology to Ease living Stress.
We live in a world that is developing so faster that we can even imagine. The increase in population also leads to increase in demand for social amenities which a lot of people clamor for everyday. The increase in population also leads to influx of people into major cities to seek good standard of living, better social amenities and other benefit. This has played a major role in the development of cities and the government has to go extra miles to make life comfortable for the people.
Is no hidden secret for those who live in Nigeria or have visited before, that Lagos is the most populated city in Nigeria, with population of over 20million people. With an average landscape area of 3,577km/sq.
These can explain the massive congestion in the city of lagos.
Major projects are being put in place to reduce traffic, improve on living and ensure smooth movement of people, goods and services within the state.
One of the projects presently in place to ease the city congestion is the construction of the 4th Mainland Bridge
Third Mainland Bridge:
The 3rd mainland bridge which is one of the longest bridge in Afirca with length of 11.1km, and average drive of 10minutes to drive through. As at when constructed, it felt like it could cub any increasing traffic and population growth. But that is not the case. In recent time, it seems so small that traffic could go as long as 4-5hrs driving through a 10mins drive bridge.
Hence the government felt the need for a 4th mainland bridge.
FEATURES of The Propose Forth(4th) Mainland Bridge:
The 38km bridge and expressway will be one of the longest bridge in the world. The 2 level designed bridge will serve a better purpose in the reducing congested in the city. The 2 level is to serve a wider range of purpose in the state to ease social and commercial activities, while creating other opportunities for the residents of Lagos.
Upper level: For Vehicle use
Lower Level: For Pedestrians and commercial Activities.
It is design to be a Four-lane dual carriageway, comprising of 3 lanes each. Also designed with it, is room for expansion.
Major construction companies for this project:
•Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
•Hi-tech Construction Limited.
•Nigerian Westminster Dredging and Marine.
COST:
This project will cost N844 billion (Eight hundred and forty four billion Naira). These include the actual cost of the contruction and cost of maintainers from 2018- 2061.
This project is a great project, which opens up opportunities/development is certain areas, such as reduction in congestion, access to major locations, source of revenue, job opportunities and will also attracts more investors to the state and Country.
Despite the economic situation, the Government of Lagos states are putting in place infrastructure to accommodate the growing population of Nigeria. This is to say, the government is not totally bad after all.
God bless Lagos state
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

This is a great piece of article with well detailed information. But at a point last year, I hear the state government stop the work and took the contract from the contractor due to the slow pace at which they were working. I hope this new contractor handling the project will finish it at the stipulated time
Thank you for this good information. I never knew this much before.
This is a nice concept. I am just worried that the lower level for pedestrians and commercial activities won't be overrun by criminal elements.
Not denying the fact that it is indeed a beautiful concept.
It's all good.. The 4th mainland bridge is on the way, I use the 3rd bridge weekly though..
