If you didn't qualify...simple you don't write the exam. Well that's what most tertiary institutions hope...A friend of mine who is a lecture came to me with a request for a “Fingerprint scanner which enrolls and authenticate students then takes a picture and uploads it to Dropbox”

Features and operation:

  • Prototype is built around an Arduino YUN (AVR microcontroller with LINUX) which is connected to the internet via Wifi.
  • Two fingerprint modes: “Enrolling” new users and “Search” to authenticate existing users.
  • Two options to monitor activities: FTDI sending all activities to the computer through serial communication during Enrolling mode and LCD during authentication mode
  • Camera drivers are installed through Linux into the YUN. During authentication and finger print matched, camera takes a user picture. Picture is converted to Dropbox Base64 encoding using a Python script and picture is then uploaded to Dropbox with all the authentication done on Temboo.
  • Servo motor (representing a boom gate) opens when authentication is granted and after the picture has been upload to Dropbox.
  • ATmega controls the fingerprint reader and LCD

This design can be used to to authenticate students writing exams and grant them access if they qualified. The picture is uploaded in real time to Dropbox with a timestamp/student number

If you didn't qualify for writing the exam...please don't take chances :)
