"Mixed Mental Arts" Episode #318: Andrew Keen ("How To Fix The Future")

Andrew Keen is wary of the growth of Google, and skeptical of the quality of user created content on the internet. He's been called an elitist because of his position. In this episode of Mixed Mental Arts, Bryan and Hunter tease out some of the logic behind his position.

LOL What's wrong with him, how could professionally produced content possibly be better than anarchists getting high and recording anti government rants in their dirty cars in their free time?

Is that really the only alternative to mainstream media you've been exposed to? Maybe that's because YouTube hides or bans the good stuff...

Haha! Perhaps @funbobby51 has not considered the MIDDLEGROUND of "anarchists getting high and recording PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED CONTENT in their dirty cars"... That is ALSO possible these days with some fairly basic tech... Anyways, I like the STYLE of BOTH of you guys, and so have followed you both...

Did I say it was? I am sure I didn't, and I am sure I didn't refer to youtube either, your comment makes no sense.

No harm meant mate, I was just thinking of a lot of great alternative media that is self produced like "The Corbet Report" (@thecorbetreport ) or "Freeman TV". Their content and delivery is top notch and entertaining and by donation.

Ah yes, I have subscribed to Freeman TV in the past. He has some good stuff. hit or miss, like most other sources, but with good intentions. Right on...

No worries.
I think I have complemented him on his production quality in the past.
Yet with even the better ones their production values are on par with public access cable at best. My comment was mostly aimed at dtube where it seems like at least 3/4 of the videos are as I described, the ones I have seen anyhow.

This is a great interview. Lots of good ideas. I'm not so sure about the idea of trusting the cutthroat mega wealthy corporate interests or corrupt government officials to save us from ourselves though (regulation)(the glorious bezos).
Certain points like the idea that YouTube has a responsibility decide what should be played on their platform but that that is somehow not censorship are clearly a little off.
Also the idea that the mainstream media is honest and never provides fake news has been shown to be quite false.
The idea of blockchain technology providing transparency is nice but only if that goes both ways. If the"plebs" cannot watch the powerful back then that is just an even more terrible surveillance state.
Anyone interested in a truly decentralized internet platform that allows users to host/own their own data should check out Holochain. It is truly revolutionary. Here is a great interview with one of the developers.

Yes, this is interesting. We are in the process of getting more up-to-speed on blockchain and it's potential solutions to the major current problems. Good video...

Yeah he has a great way of explaining what they are doing.
