Cabriolet Ferrari 400 Superamerica

in #technology8 years ago

Ferrari 400 superamerica coupe can not be called the fastest or most daring model of the Italian company. However, it is difficult to find a car more beautiful. However, there is no-as much style and charisma as the open 400 Superamerica Cabriolet, no Ferrari.

Best Ferrari can only be an open Ferrari. It seems that the bosses of the Italian company adhered to this secret rule, developing the open 400 Superamerica Cabriolet, which became one of the most notable in the history of the company.

Already in the early 60-ies of the last century the car was so expensive (about 30 000 dollars) that only a few could afford such a toy. However, only a few and purchased "Super America": from 1959 to 1962 was produced only six convertibles on the chassis of the Ferrari 400 Superamerica. It was also collected another 25 cars on a similar technical basis, but with the body Coupe Aerodynamic from third-party design studios.

The large, fast and luxurious 400 superamerica convertible replaced the previous 410 and continued Ferrari's tradition of producing rare, individual and very expensive supercars. And in the case of the 400 superamerica Cabriolet, the company continued the so — called personalization policy-each of the six cabriolet was built taking into account the personal desires of future owners.

Of course, this applies only to the interior and exterior. "Heart" of the car was a single-twelve-cylinder Columbo engine, borrowed from the model 250 GT, wasted up to four-liter volume, which increased the power to 340 horsepower. The fuel supply was provided by three Weber carburetors. The dynamic characteristics of the car were exceptional for the early 60s: acceleration to 100 km / h in 10 seconds; maximum speed-280 km / h.

The first model of the Ferrari 400 Superamerica was presented in 1959 at the Turin automobile salon. And the debut version in the back of the coupe was intended for the boss of the concern Fiat Gianni Agnelli. At the same time and showed the open version of the car — the first three convertible 400 Superamerica Cabriolet. The next three cabriolets with the original Ferrari " bow " were assembled in the coming months after the premiere. The remaining 25 cars (with the design of the body of the car Studio) were produced until 1962 inclusive. For most of them — 14 in raised body styled by the famous Pininfarina.

In September 1962, the production of the first generation Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet was completely discontinued.

The cost of the Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet is impossible to determine nowadays — there are no such cars in the free market. Very rarely open 400 Superamerica appear at auctions around the world. In 2010, at the auction RM Sporting Classic Ferrari 400 Superamerica with body Pininfarina 1962 year of release was sold for 2.8 million euros.
