BMW 328 Frazer-Nash

in #technology8 years ago

In October 2001, at the Bonhams auction, the rarest model of the Bavarian BMW — 328 Frazer-Nash was sold in 1936. The amount of the transaction exceeded one million dollars. But this great value by car standards is quite worthy of such a sum.

BMW car company, which is today a worthy representative of the premium class, traces its history to 1916. In those days, the position of the company was somewhat different-the Bavarian plant mainly produced under license cheap British cars like Austin. However, everything is changing, and by the mid-30s BMW along with Mercedes-Benz began to embody the technical power and development of the Third Reich. Such changes significantly contributed to the strong industrialization of Germany, the construction of highways throughout the country and the abolition of the tax on the power of cars.

328-I was one of the first self-developed models of the Bavarian company. Sports car in those years was at the peak of fashion: the popularity of car racing, and any reminder of them was relevant. Car BMW 328 Frazer-Nash was created in close cooperation with the British company Frazer-Nash, which is reflected in the name of the model. Partners with Foggy Albion supplied some units and helped to bring the engine. Initially, the car was not planned to be sold in private hands, and prepared exclusively for the competition. On this path BMW 328 Frazer-Nash has achieved great success — in 1936 in the debut race of the Eiffelrennen car came first. Then followed by other victories: in the legendary "24 hours of Le Mans", Mille Miglia and other competitions with a lower rank. But these victories were so much that even experts find it difficult to name the true number.

In total, about 450 copies of the BMW 328 were produced, and only a few dozen — in the Frazer-Nash version. Given that most of the German-British BMW were true "sports equipment" in private hands hit units. Today, this car is the dream of every collector. The owner of the BMW 328 Frazer-Nash will part with the car only in case of urgent need. Apparently, a similar situation came for the owner of one of these "Bavarians", and 328 Frazer-Nash 1936 was put up for sale at the auction Bonhams in 2011.

The starting price of the "athlete with a history" was 700 000 dollars, the final is more than a million — a lot, too tasty for the public. In addition to the car, the future owner, whose name is not disclosed, received an album with the full history of the car: with all the photos and documents of the 328 Frazer-Nash since his birth.

According to the current top managers of BMW, the 30s of the last century is the Golden age in the history of the brand. After all, it was then that the first stones were laid in the image of the brand — the main focus was put on handling and sportiness, which accompanies the Bavarian brand today. Only, unlike modern models, those classic BMW were deprived of an abundance of electronic assistants and other security systems-the driver was offered to curb the crazy car. Isn't that an additional reason to genuinely love the BMW 328 Frazer-Nash?
