A robot completes a dental implant "unaided" by human personnel

in #technology7 years ago

China has confirmed the successful conclusion of the first operation of a dental implant performed completely autonomously by a robot, an achievement that has also been possible "without the intervention" of human personnel.

We have put quotation marks in the quotes because, although it is true that the robot performed the dental implant autonomously, there was a human intervention in the previous phase, since the doctors had to orient the robot towards the patient's mouth and program it with the necessary information to carry out the operation.

Once this preparation stage was completed, the robot performed the operation in just over an hour without the doctors present having to intervene due to problems or errors. When the dental implant was finished, they were able to confirm that everything had gone perfectly and that the dental implant had been placed with outstanding precision.

It seems that China suffers from a severe shortage of dentists and that this is why the development of this type of robots is being favoured, as they could help to alleviate the situation and help the nearly 400 million Chinese people who need dental implants.

We know that for those who are afraid of the dentist the idea of putting themselves in the hands of a dentist robot can be even worse, but dental care is something fundamental to a fulfilling life so it is a fear that we must park.

In the video that we accompany you can see parts of the intervention, although we warn you that it is a fairly graphic content.
