We Need To Start To Think About Norms, Ethics, And Laws To Balance Unlimited Technology Development

in #technology5 years ago

We are experiencing the era that technology play important role in our civilization. It is very difficult to stay away from technology even though we also aware that technology also has its own negative impact to ourselves and society. Technology is made to help us with the idea of bringing a better world and future and there is we can not stop its development. Some people also see it in negative way that they are afraid high technology such as AI could destroy human, robots will take our jobs and do a lot of things much better, while some other see it in positive ways that this technology is a challenge for human being to improve themselves. Well, I do believe that in the future technology could replace the role of politics and economics, but we also have to start to prepare ourselves not to be the object of technology. Robots could be smarter than us but there are so many things that robots can have, which is justice and humanity. But, well, what I am going to talk about is the limit of technology. I think a lot of people are too afraid to talk about it now.

I was wondering what will happen in the future when there is a man got caught for stealing a piece of bread just because he is hungry and poor. He needs to feed himself and his little girl who haven't eat anything for 2 days. What will robots do to make decision toward this man? Is it possible for robots to feel what he feels? Even now, without robots, human can put him into jail and let her daughter away from his father just because they are so poor and hungry. Human is having difficulty as well to provide justice and humanity, I wonder how difficult it is for robots?

I was also thinking about what will happened to this world if AI take too much control on us. We lost our freedom and privacy, everything is controlled by the system. It might be fine for some people but I am questioning the purpose of those system when it was created. Such as the social grading system in China. People are scored by the government which means that people are the objects of government. If they are not doing the right things according to the government, then they will got punished. The questions is, what is right according to the government might not right according to their people. Besides, for me this system is so absurd, it is created to create trust to the government which has been lost due to massive corruptions, manipulations, and so on. Well, I don't thing trust can be forced, trust exist because of the experience, feelings, and knowledge. Robots could always obey the system, but human can not.

Thus, I think we have to rethink about what we want in the future. We want technology to develop but in some stages we also need to understand that we can not always get what we want. We deserve to get what we need but not always what we want. We have to consider about limitation. We are free to think, to speak, and to do what we want to do, but since we are also do not know everything and have our limitations to think of everything, then we need to have balance which is norms, ethics, and laws. I think technology developer should think about it hard, otherwise everything that we built today will caused a lot of problems in the future. It's like killing ourselves slowly in the future, if we do not think about norms, ethics, and laws to balance the development of technology.

We are just in the beginning of 2019 and there are a lot of new things will come out in the future. Hence, we need to start talking and discussing about norms, ethics, and laws of technologies before we are too late. Yes we all want freedom, but we do not want to ruin ourselves and this world just because we can ignore others for the reasons of freedom and human rights. We need to understand that ignorance will not help us to get what we need, to have a better world and future. It is time to care, and that is what robots might not be able to provide. It is only human who care, robots will never care.
