Could Technology Be Making You Less Productive?

Technology has dramatically reshaped the average workplace a lot in last couple of decades. The office environment has been taken over by rapid technological advancement, allowing employees to interact with a global market, and even take work out on the road or at home. The influx of new technologies that has been making the general convenience of our personal lives has grown exponentially, and has taken over our professional lives as well. The trend is guaranteed to continue.  

The Sole Purpose Of technology at Workplace was to Provide Leisure and Increase Productivity of Workforce. While we could say that we have come a long way because of flexible work schedules, Never Seen Before workforce Intake and Globalization. What we are missing to see here is Technology is killing Insidiously a greater workforce productivity, a huge increase in overworking which is largely obtuse to a bigger part of workforce and in many more ways.

History Is an Advocate that Whether it was in America or Europe, The first Labour Revolts were not for wages, Neither child labour nor poor working environment, But to reduce the long working hours that started from the sunrise to the sunset, Probably in some Industries working even at Night under the mere light of candles.

This Labour revolution has made severe changes on the working hours and was a huge factor for the creation of weekend concept. While a lot has changed from working straight 14-16 hours a day to an average 6 hours a day, 5 days a week concept in America, Europe and all the other sound countries, What we are missing is that Technology has acted as a Camouflage for long Physical working hours that human force was used to do a few decades back.

Technology is Killing Workforce Insidiously in following ways:

• Unpaid Overworking Hours:

So-called "work martyrs" give hundreds of hours in free labour to their employers every year, encouraged by always-on gadgets, work through nights, weekends, and vacations. Trading sleep or fun for unpaid work is obviously a bad deal for employees.

• Decreasing Productivity:

Due to the trick Played by technology, Most of the work done these days is Mentally instead of Physical work a few decades back. So the workforce doesn't seem to get tired from outside even after working 8-10 hours a day, but there is a drastic fall in the productivity, focus of the employees because of whole day of work. Now It doesn't effect much if it is for a day or two, but continuous mental overwork, Staring at computer screens daily 8-10 hours affects productivity and creativity of employees. 

This Unseen Overworking is Critically affecting people in Key roles of Strategy making, Problem Solving, Management etc.

• Increased Work Pressure, Low Security Of Jobs:

Due to significant adoptation of technology, a new development comes everyday. So there is ever increasing pressure on employees to keep up with the new technological developments and even surpass them to bring something Innovative that the world has not seen yet, Failed to do so, Leads to facing Unemployment. Automation, Killing the lower workforce with no option for them to adapt to the new changes.

Not Only this, A Tech Employee could easily losse his Job, Increasing Virus and Ransomware attacks, could make the company loose all of its respect in a single day, Shutting it down in a couple of months. Making a few thousand of employees loosing their jobs in a matter of moment.

So, Has Technology Been Beneficial to The Modern Workforce and helped them upto their expectations till this day, Hard To say Yes If Looked Closely.
