Connection Amid Pandemic and Tech Adoption

in #technology4 years ago

Lockdown, social distancing and increasing death counts. The state of the coronavirus pandemic has not necessarily improved but the concept of shutting in and staying at home until better measures and figures emerge are all we have for now. Life has changed significantly for many and at a personal level it’s had a significant impact. Holidays cancelled, employment uncertainty and general inability to see those you care about are just a few of the emotional struggles that this virus has brought upon our population. Solitude is not easy to deal with and the internet has been a gateway for people to connect with their loved ones. Today I wanted to talk about just a few things that have helped me connect a little more with the people I love and miss during these tough times.

Video calls have without doubt been an important part of connecting with my dear ones. I talked about Zoom a short while ago but emerging security risks quickly left me going back to my usual solutions. Not everybody is on the same apps but I’ve gradually accumulated applications that accommodate different groups in my contact lists. Whether you’re a telegram, Facebook messenger or KakaoTalk user, connecting with people via voice and video has become an essential part of life and applications have enhanced the world of texts and calling. Making sure my family members, especially older ones, have the necessary technology has been important. Modern tech has made integrated cameras and microphones sufficient across most mobile and tablet devices. Video games across mobiles have made gaming with friends and family simplistic and accessible. These gradual evolutions of interactive forms of media and communication has transformed people’s perception of technology. In times such as this, technology stands out and it raises an interesting point about tech and people.

2020 brought about many unprecedented events, the age of technology has stood out evermore and it is technology firms that is at the forefront of redirecting resources to helping both those at home and on the frontline. Diverting factory production to PPE and stepping in where needed to contribute to making the lives of people better through connecting one another. Social media has also opened a new realm of open information for the world to share information for the masses. It will be interesting to see how tech evolves once the pandemic is over, the environment for new technology adoption may be ripe for web 3.0 products.
