The world's first movie trailer mounted artificial intelligence

in #technology8 years ago (edited)

A huge number of fantastic novels, movies and video games present us with a bleak future in which artificial intelligence rebels against its creators. Now the AI algorithms used in various neural networks, self-driving cars and Assembly lines.

And if before the fear to lose a workplace and to give its cars could experience only the workers of the factories but the taxi drivers, now came the turn to fear, and people of art, because AI has mounted the world's first trailer of the film. And he did it very professionally.

For the creation of the trailer meets AI IBM Watson, and as "source material" was taken from the movie "Morgan" from 20th Century Fox. The picture is a Thriller with elements of horror and the genre has attracted scientists from IBM Research, because such films abound not only scary scenes, but the quiet moments, moments of joy, sadness, and injection of suspense.

All this has become a serious challenge for the algorithms of Watson, as it was necessary to analyze the pattern, choose the desired video and not to be mistaken with the emotional state of the whole trailer.

In the preparatory phase, the researchers used hundreds of trailers for various horror movies, which analyzed time-lapse of artificial intelligence. An analysis of each of the trailer included:

  1. Visual analysis: recognition of people, their emotional state, as well as analysis objects in each scene.
  2. Audio analysis: the ambient sounds, volume, tone and change of voice the main characters.
  3. Analysis of the scene: the composition and lighting, plus analysis and cataloguing of the locations in accordance with the type of film.

After the preparatory stage has been completed, the artificial intelligence "saw the film and chose 10 of the most successful, in his opinion, the highlights of which was mounted the final version. According to specialists IBM, if the algorithm is to migrate to other genres, e.g. Comedy, the result will not be exactly the same. The duration of each scene and the whole trailer will be adjusted AI on their own, depending on the genre and on how the movie will need to make a trailer.

As a rule, the creation of a high quality trailer for the upcoming film length about 90 minutes of screen time takes 10 to 30 days and includes a few hits of the footage, music selection, color correction and a bunch of small parts. Watson did it in 24 hours. IBM representatives and 20th Century Fox claim that a bunch of "AI — person" in this direction the future.

AI will choose the appropriate scene and the music and the film editor to assemble it in the final version, which will significantly save time in the production of content. But after watching the finished trailer (which is located right at the end of this paragraph) made by machine without any human adjustments, Willy-nilly, the question arises: why would a man something to finish, if the AI is so bad it?

Elementary my dear Watson!

Amazing work illustrating we are rapidly getting to the point where AI will be making a strong foothold in all areas of life we once thought of as being exclusive to humans. Hopefully the AI influence upon humanity will be more akin to Commander Data of Star Trek than the Terminator in Rise of The Machines. :-)
