Amazon launches the world's first keyboard for machine-playing music early next year.

Amazon unveiled the DeepComposer with artificial intelligence (AI) at `` AWS re: Invent 2019 '' in Las Vegas, USA on January 1 (local time). The ReInvent Conference is Amazon's annual cloud event, but has recently announced a number of machine learning services.

According to Amazon's announcement on the day, users can compose music in cooperation with AI, which is provided as a cloud service. You can connect to AWS from your computer to create music using a virtual keyboard, or you can use Amazon's dedicated deep composer keyboard.

Connecting a dedicated keyboard to a PC enables collaboration between the keyboard, PC and AI models. You can use pre-trained AI models provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS), or you can create your own machine learning models. The created music can be downloaded as a MIDI file or shared through the soundcloud.

Users simply play simple melodies or chords on the keyboard, or enter recorded music to create accompaniment by choosing from rock, pop, jazz and classical genres, or by applying their own AI models.

First, music experts responded that the AI composer was disappointed. According to the BBC, Amazon has released a preview audio demo on the AWS website, and AI music experts who have confirmed that it is difficult to accurately assess the quality, but (composition) is not good.

Nick Collins, a professor of AI music at Durham University in the UK, said, "Any musician with basic sequencing (such as MIDI program composition) can make a better example."

Dr. Odde Venthal, who is in charge of AI music projects at Kingston University, agrees that it's no more than an easy way to create accompaniment among ordinary users. Roughly deserved, but not a good sound firmly said. They added that AI has made some interesting developments over the years, but there are no visible results.

Amazon Deep Composer keyboard only

Amazon says the purpose of the keyboard is not to make great music. It's basically a product for developers, not a musician. Rather, he emphasizes that it is an AI that makes music, a product designed to give developers the opportunity to learn new technologies.

Deep Composer explains that the main purpose is for developers to understand how AI processors work and to understand how machine learning models are trained, Amazon said. The appearance of a dedicated keyboard is similar to that of a cheap mini keyboard. It is true that the keyboard is also small because it is plastic and is not suitable for actual music performance.

Deep Composer is the third in a series of AI educational products that incorporate machine learning in hardware, after Amazon's previously announced DeepLens and DeepRacer.

Amazon said the keyboard allows developers to understand and develop AI, like the previous Deep Lens and Deep Racer. In fact, deep lenses can be used to create your own AI services, or AI-based small racing car racing competitions are held.

Deep Composer utilizes GAN (Generation Adversarial Neural Network) technology. Thousands of public music files were trained using the training data. GAN technology means learning existing patterns through random big data and creating different styles.

Depending on Amazon.com, the Deep Composer-only keyboard will be available in the US for $ 99 starting March.
