THE SMART DUST TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION : What we could get...

           What is a smart dust? 

This might be a very difficult question for a couple of persons, ranging from few to Many and unarguably, a very large number of people. This is due to the technology having a relatively little area of application in modern day technology.

The smart dust is a complex system of Microelectromechanical system [MEMS]; despite its tiny size (which might be smaller than a grain of sand!), the smart dust system is extremely sensitive and can detect light, vibration and many other physical and chemical entities; but it's more of a ‘wave detector’.

Arranged in this tiny ‘dust’ particle are highly sensitive wireless communication system and a ‘self-powered’ electricity supply system.

                      WHAT WE COULD GET 

21st century technology is particularly aimed at providing a more functional system in smaller sized gadgets. The smart dust technology thus fits into the definition of a 21st century technology. Equipped with suitable storage system, the smart dust system is also limitless as regards the quantity of information it records.

What we could get from this amazing piece of technology is enormous as it finds application in almost all areas of our contemporary life, though invented for military purpose, the military sector is even one of the areas with the least application of the smart dust.
In agriculture, this technology can detect the needs of crops, and this gives the farmer a huge production enhancement opportunity. In a shopping complex, it's can be used to detect the movement and activities of visitors and workers, this application is also feasible in all areas where human movement is obtainable, this also forms that basis of it's military appliciation in security of soldiers and tracking of the opponent's activities. The smart dust's application is vast and inexhaustible, so to say.

                   WHAT WE COULD LOSE

Issues of human privacy and cost is a major problem limiting the full actualization of the smart dust technology.
The smart dust can record anything you wish and this includes human activities which the individual wouldn't wish to share with a third party/public.
It is also a costly technology as these satellites and chips costs a lot.
Another major problem this technology might present is the degradation of organic materials which includes plants and might also be injurious to health due to its emissions.
