WINDOWS 10 EXPECTATION PART 1: DO YOU REALLY NEED THESE UPDATES?

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

The intention of this article is to help other users, who might have missed some practical laptop configuration, that might help them save a lot of time, and avoid some troubles with their device in a certain situation.

DO YOU REALLY NEED THESE UPDATES?
Did you experience a delay in your work just because when you turn on your laptop you see this prompt?

Frustrating right? Specially if you happen to be in an urgent situation where you really need access to your device at that very moment, when you are on a meeting and needs to present something or when someone is urgently requesting you to send a file via email. Turning off your device forcefully during this process is really a big no, because it will surely cause more problems on your computer.

When you get this prompt, sometimes it will take several minutes to be completed, and in a worst-case scenario it will freeze permanently or gets stuck in a never-ending loop, wasting your time waiting and hoping for the completion of this technical process.

Windows 10 by default has been designed to no longer allows the manual, selective installation of updates. These updates run at the background without you knowing as long as it is connected to the internet and for it to work, it requires you to restart your computer, because it will install the update when the computer is restarted. That’s the reason why we suddenly see the prompt shown above.

Automatic update is very useful for large networks of computers that is being run in business offices to ensure all services are running properly to sustain the business needs. But how about if you are only a home user or an individual who uses the laptop for personal purposes like blogging, photo/video editing, surfing the net, etc., do you really need these updates? If you will ask my opinion, the answer is no. Even from a technical standpoint, it is not really necessary, as long as your device serves your purpose. This suggestion is based on my extensive study about operating system and my personal experience in using windows platforms as early as Windows 95.

So, when you just bought your windows 10 laptop, it is expected that you will encounter these automatic updates, and if this prevents you from doing your purpose, follow the steps below to disable it.

STEPS IN DISABLING AUTOMATIC UPDATES IN WINDOWS 10

  1. Click the start button, then start typing (services.msc) open and close parenthesis not included.
