Reset Windows 7/10 password with Windows 10 DVD/USB Media > only use if you have forgotten your password or do not have your Microsoft account info
Follow the steps to reset your Window 7/10 password:
- Boot from the Windows 10 DVD or USB Media. Make Sure to change your boot order.
Boot from Windows 10 DVD - Press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt.
- Replace the file utilman.exe with cmd.exe. You should probably make a copy of utilman.exe – if you like, so that you can restore it later. Windows 10 is usually installed on drive D: if you boot from a DVD. You can verify this with “directory d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.” If the system cannot find utilman.exe, try other drive letters.
- 2 move d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak
copy d:\windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe

- You can now add a new user with the command below. We also have to add the user to the administrator group (has full rights to computer). Replace username with the account name of you would like to use. Pick a NEW account name.
net user <user-name> /add
net localgroup administrators <user-name> /add
Now add the user to the local administrators group
- Your account should show up, and you can sign in without a password. Reboot if needed.
