Local Area Network (LAN)

Local Area Network (LAN) is an communication network connecting computes within small geographic area like School,office building,library etc. LAN is always capable of transmitting data faster but it has limitation like distance and number of computer connect in the network.
Different type of LAN can be identified through below characteristics -

Topology : Topology is nothing but geometric arrangement of devices over the network. As an eaxmple, device can be connected in a straight line or circle.

Protocol : Protocol is set of rules for sending data. The protocols also determine whether the network uses a peer-to-peer or client/server architecture.

Media : Media is physical cable linking by which different computers/devices can be connected together .Most popular media used in computer network are twisted-pair wire, coaxial cables or fiber optic cables. Some networks can be connected through radio waves also.
