Why i hate stack overflow

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

The hate for Stack Overflow exists because of the fact that users base is divided into two BIG categories:

Old school programmers - they belong to a strict discipline of programming, where before you start coding you have to learn computer science, logic, basic algorithms theory, mathematics and a lots of other things. Then you have to read documentation of a programming language, so you will know basic syntax, structure, proper methods and so on. They have spent YEARS in that way and their knowledge is something more than incredible.

**New programmers **- people who wants to build stuff soon and they don’t know the right way of programming. Usually, they want a quick answer on their problem, so the ask dumb questions about everything, even if the answer is something already existing on some Google result.

When an old school programmer reads a question like that, he may not react softly. The reply something like “read documentation” , “write your own code” , “this is not how to use this site” etc.

They have another way to do things and they don’t accept that new programmers want everything soon and easy, without even trying to do things. They reply harshly and sometimes they sound offensive or, at least, not very friendly.
