Samsung has lost a lawsuit against Apple, the South Korean company is going to pay $ 539 million for breaching patents
An American court ruled that Samsung must pay the Apple giant no less than $ 539 million, the amount representing compensation for the unlawful use of patented technologies by the US company.
According to the information contained in the court decision, most of the payment amounts to the violation of three Apple patents describing design elements abusively taken over by Samsung. With a lower impact, two patents for utility-grade technologies also come on the list.
The fact is that this is only the last of a long line of lawsuits brought to the lawyers of the two companies back in 2011, when Apple launched the charge by accusing Samsung of rivaling the use of many patented technologies developed for the iPhone series. In 2012, a first defeat put Samsung in the position to pay no less than $ 930 million in damages, a sum contested by the United States Court of Appeals and reduced in 2015 to "only" $ 548 million. Originally paid, the amount was partially recovered in 2016 after a new court decision reduced the amount owed to Apple by $ 399 million.
