Alternatives to Youtube

in #technology6 years ago

What I have always told people about Wikipedia is that it is a colossal and gigantically useful resource for any topic for which no controversy could plausibly exist but, that for anything else (any controversial topic), wiki is totally worthless.

At this point in time, it appears as if Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube could be described much the same way.

There may or may not be alternatives to twitter; I pretty much view twitter as a misuse of technology and have no personal use for it.

There does not really appear to be anything resembling a reasonable alternative to Facebook; all we can really do is hope that the Trump administration finds a way to impose some reasonable set of rules on it.

In the case of YouTube there are at least three candidates for an alternative:

https://www.bitchute.com
https://www.real.video
https://d.tube

I would advise people to keep an eye on all three of those. D.tube is part of Steemit, which makes it interesting. Steemit is blockchain based and very large.

Alex Jones is on real.video and there are other things to recommend the site as well.

Bitchute appears to be the first of these YouTube alternatives and a number of interesting channels have migrated to it. Debbie the Sane Progressive would be one such.

All of that says that you can still watch movie trailers, historical videos, Japanese sword fight movies and whatnot on YouTube but, for anything more important or critical than that, you should at least be aware of the possibility of searching on these other sites.
