Our future depends on what we do in the present

In a presentation on this subject the presenter painted a picture of hope and possibillity beside one of extreme hardship for our children and future generations.

It is not as clear as it should be to most, that most everyone on Earth is waiting for someone else to do something about the dire circumstances we a moving toward, what with climate change, population growth way beyond our plans to accomodate it, associated ever increasing scarcity of resources, over utilization of existing resources like forests, ocean life and fossil fuels, the production of environmentally unfriendly materials like plastics, pesticides and every kind of toxin. The list of ecosystem destroying activities Man is invovled in is beyond our comtemplation.

Everyone nods and agree with these ideas but we still expect someone else to do something, to take the lead and show us the way. We tend to find the concept of the future of our world far too complicated for predictive thinking and therefore fail to associate with the future to an extent which facilitates our making plans with conviction and making a difference.

The presenter I speak of is engaged in a marvelous project which provides a very real taste of the various futures we can imagine, like actually living them, and thereby provide an experience which motivates, associates and activates people in endeavours aimed at choosing a better future.

I recommend watching this video and delving into the concepts presented so that we can make a difference for our children, our people and our future, that we might actually choose the legacy we leave in stead of simply allowing it too hapen to us.

A well known phrase which goes something like this : "For evil to trumph only takes good men to do nothing" I would put in the words, "For our life and future to pass us by as if we were only bystanders only takes our choice to do nothing."
