Derinkuyu - A Marvel of Ancient Construction and Mysterious Purpose

A family in Cappadocia, Turkey in 1963, decided to renovate their home and in the process, uncovered an underground array of tunnels, rooms and living areas which included many thousands of ventilation shafts and every needed constructional aspect of an underground city which could accommodate at least 20 thousand people.

This city came to be known as Derinkuyu underground city which is beneath Derinkuyu, a town in Cappadocia. The discovery was opened to public viewing in 1969.

The construction of this city is claimed to date back to thousands and many thousands of years and is such that the builders would need great knowledge of the forces involved in terms of support so deep beneath the surface to avoid cave-in catastrophes. Our mining expertise today does not compare since our mining is certainly not without catastrophic collapse. There is no evidence of these structures ever suffering collapse.

The extent of this city and the work and knowledge required to build it have been equated with the building of the pyramids.

The reasons for building such a city are a mystery but the indicators are provocative.

It certainly is not normal to choose to live underground to the extent of keeping livestock deep underground and building so elaborate a city where the benefits of sunshine do not exist.

It stands to reason therefore that secretion would be the motive. That is the builders needed to hide and had time or warning enough to embark on a work of the magnitude of the pyramids in order to hide 20 thousand people.

But what would they be hiding from ?

Since caves and other underground living environments rely completely on ventilation, it is really easy for hostile opponents to annihilate those living in such an environment simply by their control of the air supply.

It has been suggested that the only reason for such an environment would be to hide from aerial warfare and attack by aerial craft which would not notice ventilation shafts.

This is an intriguing idea, especially since no known earthly civilizations were using aerial weapons.

Speculation as to alternative reasons for the existence of so large a city beneath Cappadocia in Turkey would certainly interest me as the Alien idea is one which seems highly implausible.

The reason I find alien activity on Earth unlikely is that anything aliens advanced enough to traverse the distance between Earth and any other inhabitable planet could be interested in should be obtainable much closer to them.

We can produce oxygen from moon dust, we now have plants which can feed us, growth at phenomenal rates in extremely low temperatures. We could mine anything we need from asteroids. Why would an alien race choose to engage us ? What could they gain ? they could face hostility and would probably. They would be far superior, technologically and should have nothing to learn from us and they could obtain anything we have without having to engage us.

The only feasible motive I imagine would be to obtain something from us which we do the work to produce, so that they would not have to. But that seems a really expensive expedition considering the possible rewards.

In any event, the motivation for the existence of so large an underground city of such ancient date is a challenge to my mind and I would be interested to learn of any good theories.

Alien intervention can be a fanciful aside, but an efficient use of the land wouldn't be for homes and granaries, but for agriculture. Far more useful to build homes downward as we do upward, is it not? At least that's my take.

If you watch the video I'm sure you will agree that the sacrifice involved in building it could never be justified by such a motive as there was no need to conserve space in those times.Modern day Japan, with its land shortage wouldn't consider so massive an undertaking.

Keep us posted on any new information!

Yeah, I was hoping you would provide that :)
