E-Textiles
E-textiles are smart fabrics enabling digital components and electronics to be embedded. E-textiles are also known as smart clothing, smart garments, electronic textile and smart fabrics. According to Pailes-Friedman, smart fabrics are Revolutionary because they are capable of doing many things that traditional fabric can not e.g It can be used for communication, can transform its shape and have the ability to conduct energy.
There are basically two different categories of smart Textiles : Aesthetics and Performance. Aesthetic Fabrics have the ability to light up the fabric and change its colour depending upon the situation the user is in. It is capable of gathering energy vibrations and heat from the environment. Performance enhancing smart Textiles are made for extreme conditions like military applications and extreme sport activities. It consist of fabrics that helps regulate body temperature, muscle vibrations and reduced resistance. There is also another categories of textile fabrics which have been developed for protective clothing in order to protect yourself from extreme environmental conditions like radiations and space travel. Smart fabrics also has a great use to help us be healthy and enhance beauty.
E- Textiles are used in the development of wearable Technologies and smart clothing. There is a seamless integration of textiles with electronic components like micro controllers, sensors and more, which makes it very different from the wearable computer technologies.
Uses
E-textiles have great uses in every area taking from a normal person to a military person. It can be used to monitor heart rate, temperature, respiration, posture and more. For a sport person it can help to acquire data that can be used to improve its skills. It doesn’t only have applications for a common person but also for military purposes. Soldiers can use it as Bullet Proof Kevlar and any bullet impact will send a radio signal to the base to get help. It also has great uses in Fashion industry. The possibilities are limitless.
